And welcome! In the last days I did some repetitive work on small things that will be needed to move to the next step. Mostly I have attached the deadeyes to the hull, preparing them for the masts. You can see the results in the next images.
In a first step the blocks were attached on their places on the hull together with their chains. Then the rest of the holders were glued, holes prepared and the end of the chains was glued to the body.
The end results looks like this:
The blocks are not yet in the right positions, some of them need to be twisted a bit. But overall it looks fine.
There is not much else to show you. Some parts that were not completely stained or varnished on the hull are finished now.
So, it would have been a very short post. But, a friend save it when he asked: 'what do you use to make all these things?'. The question was very good I think, because I did not introduced to you yet all the things that make possible the Black Pearl.
Of course, very important are the kit parts. You have already seen them in the first post. So, let's continue with the others.
One very important thing is to have a good and sharp hobby knife (or scalpel). You use it at so many things and you realize immediately that this is not the place where you should buy cheap.
Then, it comes a 'pin-tool'. I have no clue how it is named in English. But it is very useful to create the initial places for the holes, scratch or clean tight areas.
Next I present a very thin drill. More sizes will be needed, in the picture you can see a 0,8 mm one.
Very useful you will find a variety of pliers. Only your imagination will limit the situations where they are useful.
A good set of tweezers is also very god to have. Especially if you work on small scales or on rigging.
Then, because I am working with wood, some wood saws are also handy to have.
A good set of files with different profiles is also very good to have.
And for the situations where your hands cannot keep things right where you need a 3rd hand, a small vice is the best thing to have around.
Of course, nothing will stay together if the glue is not there. In the picture you can see some white glue that fortunately is waterproof and also it cures transparently. There are more types of glue that can be used, not just white glue. One that I found very useful is a fast setting supper glue.
A magnifying glass with a 3rd hand is very useful for the times when you are fiddling with small parts (or when you get a bit older and your eyes need a helper).
Sanding a good skill to have when you work with wood. In the picture you can see a standard sanding block. More sandpaper sizes can be used with it.
For painting, varnishing or cleaning, a good set of brushes is a must. Also they can be used to apply the white glue.
Not in the last place, the safety gear is also present. In the picture you can see some glasses, very useful when dust or other potentially eye harming things are arround.
Clamps will make your life easier and keep your hands away while you are waiting for the glue to settle.
You might have noticed that there are no power tools around. This does not mean that I do not have or use any. I am using a hand held batery powered dril machine. it is good for more things, but i think that if you are building a kit you can deal without it.
Well, this is it for tonight. See you next days with more details about how the things are working.
Good night!
