More Second Layer Planking

I think you are already bored by this now, but i thought i would update you a bit with the progress.

This is how the left side looks like now:

You can still see some places were the first layer of planking needed some putty and sanding. I needed to taper most of the planks that are getting to the front and this takes a lot of time.

Second Layer of Planking

Today I was supposed to go and have some fun skying. But the weather and my health had different ideas, so here I am in the house starting the second layer planking.

Of course, it all starts with some measurements and planning. This is not showed in the pictures, planning is boring and tedious and I know you all are looking for action.

More Small Things

Tonight I had some spare time. I could not start the second layer of planking because i so not have some materials I need for that, so I have glued some more small parts.

First it was the tower located on the back part of the ship. I am sure it has a name in naval terms, but i did not looked for it.

First Layer of Planking - Part 2

Hello and welcome back!

Last time I told you I was starting the planking. Well, now it is finished. It was challenging and very fun.

Here are some more pictures with the result.

First Layer of Planking - Part 1

I haven't been here for a while. Between some 'daily business' i found some time (and courage) to start one of the parts that should be both hard and fun: the planking.

The hull is prepared and after fitting on the large parts supplied with the kit, it was time to start the real work.

The internet was again very useful. You can find plenty of tutorials in all languages and for all levels of knowledge and skill.

It is not all about big things

I know that now you all are curious about what happened to the Black Pearl :-).

So, I have some updates for you. You can see how the decks look like when they are planked. I am quite happy with the way they are looking and I cannot wait to see them fitted on the ship.

It Starts To Look Like a Ship

One day later, after the keel dried up and I was sure that all the things fit together, i have started to glue the ribs to the keel.

Let's Get Started

So, the story continues...

The package was delivered in a Tuesday. The first step was (as recommended by the vendor) to verify that the package contents are intact and that everything is fine in there.

It looked fine, at a first glance. Later i have discovered that there are small problems in there, but this is 'later'.

It all starts with a story

Since I was a small child i wanted to build a wooden model ship. I started when I was 9, together with my father, but we only managed to create the keel and stopped.

Last month, while talking with a friend about this, I decided it is the right time to start this. Because we were talking about pirates, the choice was simple: she had to be the Black Pearl!

I looked a bit in the internet and I ended up with some possibilities: built it from scratch or buy a kit. I did not had all the tools needed for scratch building, so i started to look for a kit. There are not many solutions around, but ebay helped and soon I ordered the kit.

There will be a number of posts that will present how the things evolve.

See you soon!
